Dust collecting systems help protect individuals and equipment from toxic and otherwise harmful airborne particulate. They are primarily used to collect woodworking and metal working dust from processes like sawing or anodizing in both home and industrial settings. Dust collecting systems function as a washer for the air. Proper air quality is essential in any area, but in woodworking shops, unfiltered wood dust can cause lung illness and damage.
Dust collecting systems are, essentially, central vacuum systems. There are, however, many different types ranging from a basic cloth attachment at the end of a tool or a large filtered system to a complete cyclone system. Choosing the appropriate system depends on the type and amount of dust being produced. A filter system is best for small, fine particles. These systems, though, are expensive and require filtration bags that may not come as standard components. A cyclone system works best for larger particles. It often contains a copper wire to snag large chips, but it is easily clogged and sometimes difficult to maintain. It is sometimes best to offer a frame system to enclose the area containing the dust so the dust collecting system can function better. Many companies design modular frame systems made of modular aluminum, which has undergone an anodizing process, for easy assembly and installation.
As technology has improved, electrostatic dust collecting systems have become increasingly popular. These systems are composed of a wire grid attached to a power source. They remove the dust using electrostatic attraction. No matter what system is chosen, though, there are a number of reasons to invest in dust collecting systems. It can not only protect the health of all involved, it can also free the owner of the facility from legal entanglements and high insurance costs, and minimalize potential fire hazards, which are a serious concern with dust. Too much dust in the air can be ignited by any source, including ovens. It is, therefore, essential to purify the air. Additionally, dust collecting systems help to maintain equipment and offer a better quality of product.
