Bulk bags are storage solutions used to hold large amounts of material, such as seed, grain, chemicals, feed and sand. They can be designed to be reusable or for a single use and are produced in a wide range of materials, including PVC, woven polypropylene, polymesh and burlap. Cotton and paper varieties, as well as combination bags (using a durable, wear-resistant outer shell, and a leak-resistant, sanitized inner bag), are also produced by bulk bag manufacturers.
Bulk bags manufacturers also offer a number of design options, such as duffle, fill spout and discharge spout style bags. These options allow for a multitude of storage, transport and production needs, and provide a wide range of possibilities to users. Fill spout tops, for example, provide a mess free, easy-to-fill container for a variety of systems. Operators simply position the spout beneath the pouring mechanism, and fill the bag; when used with the proper system, the design has little possibility of overflow or spillage. Discharge spouts provide the same performance characteristics, but at a different end of the production cycle; they allow operators to quickly and efficiently evacuate contents after transport.
Bulk bags are rated for size, maximum carrying capacity and material. While maximum carrying capacity is the primary determinant of bag contents, overall size is an important factor, especially when dealing with relatively lightweight materials. Bag construction, which can include mesh, flat solids and weaves, is also important, as certain materials may be exposed to contamination or leak in improper storage. Carrying and transport options are also important, and the majority of bags come equipped with handles, drawstrings or loops to facilitate manual or automated movement between locations. Certain bags may also be engineered with sealing options to keep contents free of contamination, or to isolate potentially hazardous materials. These bulk storage solutions are particularly useful in food or chemical processing applications.
