When special and custom machinery is required for an industrial application, a great deal of consideration needs to be made when choosing the designer, builder, or manufacturer. Automation machinery is advantageous for applications that require minimal human intervention. Due to the intricacy generally involved in the automation process, it is beneficial to have custom machinery designed, built, and manufactured for each individual application. Special and custom automation machinery is used to insure the safety and quality of the product, application, or process.
For example, custom-made automation machinery is much sought after when a cleanroom environment is essential. Cleanrooms are free from environmental contaminants that would otherwise be present if human employment was used. The process used in planning the custom automation machinery follows precise instructions to insure that the cleanroom environment is never contaminated.

Industries use a prototype or blueprint as an example of the end product needed by the process of creating custom machinery. Designers create the prototype or blueprint then hand the prototype or blueprint to the manufacturer. The manufacturer then creates the custom machinery as specified by the designer’s prototype. The designer and the manufacturer must work closely together to guarantee that the custom machinery meets the high-standards, expectations, and requirements of the industry.
The inclusion of specialists to create custom and special machinery increases the overall expenses of the application being created. However, this extra expense is warranted for the safety, reliability, and longevity of the machinery while in use and after.
