A proper racking system is a fundamental component of any storage, mounting, display or material handling operation. The right racks allow rapid access to stored or mounted components, as well as a dependable, ergonomic product storage solution. In addition to acceptable strength and design specifications, a racking system should maximize facility space while simplifying inventory requirements. In certain applications, such as laboratories and clean rooms, racks must also provide a sterile, inert and accessible location for sensitive materials, including biological matter, powerful acids and various chemicals.
Pallet racks are among the most widely used type of storage solutions in heavy industry, shipping and manufacturing. Racking units are rated for maximum capacity, size, stacking potential and pallet type; both adjustable and fixed designs are available. Certain pallet types can be mounted across the beams of a rack, while others require further support, or decking. Rack decking is manufactured in a variety of styles, from wire mesh to channel-reinforced steel decking. Most pallet racking systems feature two beams, although additional support beams can be added to enhance system stability.
Display racks play an essential role in most retail locations, enabling retailers to get optimal exposure for the maximum amount of products. Display racks range from basic wire racks and metal shelves to elaborate custom units. They are available in virtually any sturdy material, from cardboard and plastic to wood, glass and metal. Cardboard and plastic racks allow for a wide assortment of custom possibilities, from specialized shapes to unique printed designs. Magazine racks let retailers show countless titles in a limited space.
Racks are also used to mount and house an extensive range of electronic and telecommunications equipment, including servers, sound recording equipment and control systems. Ideally, electronic racking systems provide secure mounting brackets and easy accessibility. They allow companies to arrange, map and track all existing systems while ensuring the safety of all equipment.
