Circuit Breaker Desiccants

ADCOA has had long experience in working with the major utilities and power circuit breaker manufacturers in the development and production of SF6 Circuit Breaker Desiccant Bags. These bags are designed to be suspended in the breaker housings to adsorb water vapor and other arc products.

Our Power Circuit Breaker Desiccant Bags are made from self extinguishing, non-dusting Dacron. In most of these bags, we utilize Type 4A Molecular Sieve as the active desiccant. Type 4A has been found to be the preferred desiccant for this application.

Circuit Breaker Desiccants have become a mandatory maintenance item for most breakers in use today. The 4A Molecular Sieve is a synthetically reconstituted alumina silicate which is generated and processed under stringent conditions to establish exact pore dimensions within the lattice of the molecules crystalline structure. These pores are created by removing the water of crystallization from the compound. In its dehydrated state, the Molecular Sieve exhibits a tremendous affinity for water and smaller hydrocarbons, adsorbing over twenty percent of its weight of such contaminates. The incorporation of Type 4A into the static drying system essentially eliminates the danger of arcing caused by gas contamination in the breaker housing.

ADCOA also offers a full range of desiccants for use as a bulk moisture drying bed in the circuit breaker door. These desiccants include Activated Alumina and Silica Gel. We package all of our Circuit Breaker Desiccant Bags in heat-sealed, vapor-proof foil enclosures to prevent contamination of the product prior to use. Packaged in this manner, we guarantee a minimum shelf life to two years.

Desi-Pak® Type I & II
Desi-Pak® is a dimensionally stable, chemically inert, aluminum silcate clay packaged in non-dusting, air permeable bags. The internal structure of this clay is a network of microscopic pores that attract and hold water through physical adsorption. Desi-Pak® remains dry and will not soften or liquefy even at full water saturation. It is non-corrosive and can be placed in direct contact with metal parts.

APPLICATION
Desi-Pak® is a cost efficient desiccant that will protect the contents of a sealed container until it is opened. The contents of a sealed container will remain free from mildew or corrosion and will be in the same condition as when packaged for shipment or storage.

DUSTING
Desi-Pak® is packaged in tear resistant, dustproof bags.

PERFORMANCE
Desi-Pak® exceeds the requirements of MIL-D-3464D in actual performance. It exceeds the water adsorption of Silica Gel at various humidity levels. Placed within a sealed package or container to protect goods/products from moisture damage. Used with electronic parts, aerospace missile components, computer components or any environment that is sensitive to dust. Desi-Pak® is used by both general purpose and non-dusting purposes. Meets military specification MIL-D-3464E.

Note: Each container of Desi-Pak® includes an MS26507-1 humidity indicator card to insure that the desiccant is active when recieved.

Sorb-It®
Sorb-It® is a prepackaged sachet-style packet of Silica Gel commonly used in the packaging of electronic components, pharmaceuticals, dried foods and machine parts. Perfect for the hobbyist or collector of stamps, magazines, comic books, autographs and other cellulose items. Prevents corrosion and contamination. Prepackaged sodium form of Zeolite.

Commonly used in the packaging of electronic components, pharmaceuticals, dried foods and machine parts. Perfect for the hobbyist or collector of stamps, magazines, comic books, autographs and other cellulose items. Prevents corrosion and contamination.

The function of Sorb-It® is like a tiny sponge with millions of microscopic pores. Under very low humidity condition, a small amount of water vapor will be adsorbed in the smallest pores. As humidity increases, the larger pores will begin to fill. For example, at 20% R.H.. and 75° F., Sorb-It® will adsorb about 12% of its weight in water. At 80% R.H.. and 75° F, it will adsorb 35% its weight in water. Unlike a sponge, however, Sorb-It® remains dry even at maximum capacity.

Desi-Pak Tyvek®
Tyvek® Bags Tyvek is made from a spunbonded olefin. Tyvek bags are made from high density polyethylene fibers, making them extremely tear-resistant. In addition, Tyvek is lightweight, flexible, smooth, low-linting, and is resistant to water, chemical abrasion, and aging. The Desi-Pak® Tyvek® bag is approved for use in a Class 100 Clean Room environment. Exceeds requirement of MIL-D-3464D

Used with electronic parts, aerospace missile components, computer components, optical devices, laser equipment or any environment that is sensitive to dust.

Type 4A
Type 4A Molecular Sieve is the preferred adsorbent for static dehydration in a closed gas or liquid system. It is used as a static desiccant in household refrigerating systems, packaging of drugs, electronic components, perishable chemicals and as a water scavenger in paint and plastic systems. Also used commercially in drying saturated hydrocarbon streams. The sodium form of Zeolite.

Type 4A Molecular Sieve is typically used in regenerable drying systems to remove water vapor or contaminants that have a smaller critical diameter than four angstroms.

Molecules Excluded:>4Ã… effective diameter, e.g., propane
Base: Alumina-Silicate
Cation: Sodium

Type 4A-Moisture Indicating
Moisture-indicating Molecular Sieves are beads that have been chemically impregnated to display a blue color when fully activated by removing the water of hydration. When a gas stream is dried using this product, the blue color will turn to pink as water is adsorbed denoting saturation of the sieve. The sieve may then be reactivated at 200°C under vacuum or nitrogen atmosphere for several hours. More conveniently, the sieve may be replaced from fresh stock.

It is used as a static desiccant in household refrigeration systems, packaging of drugs, electronic components, perishable chemicals and as a water scavenger in paint and plastic systems. Also used commercially in drying saturated hydrocarbon streams.

Type 4A Moisture-Indicating Molecular Sieve allows the user to determine whether a bed of desiccant is nearing water vapor saturation. Moisture-Indicating Molecular Sieve can be used either ′′full-strength′′ to maximize the effect of the color-change indicator, or may be mixed with non-indicating product for a more economical approach to the application.

Not suitable for liquid phase applications.

Dri-it®

Dri-it® effectively reduces Relative Humidity (RH) levels to keep stored items safe from risk of mold and mildew in applications where air-tight sealing of the area to be dried is impractical or impossible. Dri-it® is the product to use when storing or shipping cars, boats or RV′s; to combat mold in closets, storage sheds, bins and lockers; to protect infrequently used items such as camping equipment, seasonal decorations or clothing.

Each 125 gram (4.4oz) pouch will protect a volume of approximately 50 Cubic Feet (5′x5′x2′). Six pouches (enough to protect approximately 300 Cubic Feet) are packaged in a re-sealable, moisture-proof foil bag along with a Humidity Indicator Card. The Humidity Indicator Card is designed to tell you when Dri-it® has become saturated with water and must be replaced.
