Research in previous projects and specific issues have provided Melton the answer to solve different problems with one only systems. Adhesive application in the book spines for book and cover assembly has always represented a difficulty from a technical point of view in all the bookbinding industry. Previous technologies usually used external wheel application. These systems need a great effort in maintenance and are not adapted to the nature of polyurethane polymer resins. Traditional wheel methods are external and open systems. The PUR is in continuous contact with air. As a result the PUR degrades prematurely losing all its adhesive capacities turning useless for production. Open systems also suffer other negative effects such as bubble and foam formation during application in the production line. The other major difficulty in the bookbinding application is that the spine surface where the adhesive must be applied is not flat therefore other options such as slot coating application cannot be applied efficiently result in a non-perfect finish, production line problems and possible high rates of glue consumption. Melton′s adjustable multichannel application gun - Melton has created an specific application gun based on the experience in slot coating continuous applications and adjustable with applicators. The result of research and experience in our client′s needs is the new adjustable multichannel gun.
