ASTM A36 is a Carbon Steel that is used in general plate applications when the plate will be riveted, bolted, or welded. ASTM A36 is produced to chemical and mechanical properties that offer a minimum yield of 36 KSI and a tensile range of 58 KSI to 80 KSI on plates up to 8 inches thick. On plates 8′′ thick and over the minimum yield is 32 KSI.
ASTM A572-GR 50 is a High Strength Low Alloy Steel that is used in general plate applications when the plate will be riveted, bolted, or welded. ASTM A572-GR 50 is a Columbium-Vanadium Steel that offers a minimum yield of 50 KSI and is used whenever a cost savings from a weight reduction can be gained.
Charpy V-Notch Tests available. Bushwick Metals stocks A572-GR 50 plates up to 4′′ thick
ASTM A588 is a High Strength Low Alloy Steel that is used in general plate applications when the plate will be riveted, bolted, or welded. ASTM A588 is a Copper bearing steel that offers a minimum yield in the range of 42 KSI to 50 KSI, (depending upon thickness, see table), and has approximately two to four times the corrosion resistance of carbon steel without copper. ASTM A588 plates are used whenever a cost savings from a weight reduction can be gained or when there are concerns about atmospheric corrosion. Charpy V-Notch Tests available. Bushwick Metals stocks A588 plates up to 8′′ thick.
