PVC Capabilities
Polyvinylchloride (PVC) Plastisol is one of the few materials used in rotational moldiing to provide flexible components. We find it to be essential to our business to have the knowledge and expertise in rotational molding of both flexible and rigid polymers. This adds exposure to many diverse products and markets, which in turn enables Hedstrom Plastics to share this increased knowledge when reviewing your product requests. Our PVC molding capabilities are enhanced by both domestic and overseas manufacturing facilities. Product details and volume are taken into consideration for determining location of manufacturing on a case by case basis.

For PVC molding applications, our knowledge of the process enables Hedstrom Plastics to be a preferred supplier to major sporting good, fitness and rehabilitiation, and marine companies on a global basis.
Rotational Molding
The rotational molding process forms plastic materials into useful articles by 2 axis rotation of the mold through heat and cooling cycles. Ideally suited to hollow, virtually stress-free parts, part size options range from less than 1 pound to parts weighing hundreds of pounds. Hedstrom Plastics currently manufactures quality products that span both ends of this part weight range. We maintain various machine sizes to accommodate custom molding of small to large parts.
Critical to the production of quality rotational molded parts is proper mold design. Generally, cast aluminum or machined aluminum are the molds of choice, but electroformed and fabricated steel and aluminum molds are also utilized. Hedstrom Plastics contracts with experienced mold makers, overseeing the mold build from start to finish. We then furnish in-house mold maintenance for routine inspection and general upkeep allowing for timely scheduling and long term productivity from all types of molds.
You will discover that the mold construction costs are significantly less than many other plastic processes. The rotational molding process does not form the parts by forcing the material into a shape, it forms an even wall, durable part layer by layer during the heated rotation cycle. There are no extreme molding pressures involved, consequently the mold construction time is less and simplified.
Depending on the needs of your application and your unique specifications, Hedstrom Plastics can incorporate the following technology into your next rotational molding project.
  • Product and mold design assistance
  • Molded in thread inserts, molded threads, or spin weld fittings
  • Structural ribbing, surface textures, mold in lettering
  • Permanent graphic labels
  • Secondary finishing and assembly, trimming, drilling
  • CNC programmed routering
  • Individual packaging or bulk pack
  • Polyurethane foam filling of molded parts for flotation, insulation, sound baffling or rigidity
  • Tight tolerance parts when specified
