We surveyed The Industrial Marketer readers last month to see how far along folks have progressed in completing
their 2007 marketing plans. Only one-third of our respondents stated that they have developed a formal written
marketing plan for 2007. What is even more interesting is that nearly two-thirds of respondents claim that their
company will be launching new products next year, which means that only half of the companies looking to launch a
new product in 2007 actually have a formal marketing plan developed. For those that do not, the results may be
hit or miss in terms of success.
Whether your company currently has a formal marketing plan or is in the process of creating one
here are 5 key tips to developing a better plan:
- Understand customer needs
- Develop a SWOT analysis
- Know your competitive landscape
- Create actionable, relevant and measurable goals, strategies and tactics
- Measure results continuously
