As one of the largest industrial trade shows in the world, Hannover Messe, taking place April 8-13 in Hannover, Germany, will be host to a wide range of innovations across numerous industries. Aerzen, a leading manufacturer of blowers, compressors, and related accessories, will showcase two of its most recent innovations.

The Series VMW is an oil-free screw compressor with water-injection cooling. This makes it ideal for manufacturers in the chemicals or food industry. Most water-injected compressors are less efficient and productive than an equivalent oil-injected device. This is due to a lack of dimensional stability in the polymeric-ceramic materials of the rotors. Aerzen compensates for this by using high-alloy, non-corrosive steel.

In addition, oil-free compressors typically have a two-stage design, which increases the initial investment cost of the device. Using a single-stage operation, the VMW can generate up to 13 bar and a volume flow of 2.5 to 9.5 cu-m/min, giving it a comparable performance to double-stage oil-free screw compressors, while saving investment costs.

Aerzen will also feature its Delta Hybrid. According to Stephen Brand, Aerzen’s international marketing manager, it is called a “hybrid” because it combines technologies found in both roots-type blowers and screw compressors. “It combines these technologies and advantages, and saves on energy costs compared to standard root-type blowers,” he told IMT Fluid & Gas Flow Journal during a preview event for Hannover Messe. The result is a new category of product, dubbed a “rotary lobe compressor.”

Low-pressure applications typically call for the roots-type compression, whereas in higher pressure ranges, the screw compressor with its internal compression is more practical, due to its high energy efficiency and lower heat loss. The combination of these technologies results in a 15 percent energy savings.

Brand remarked that the Delta Hybrid is one of the company’s best sellers in the U.S., with more than 100 units sold in 2012. Aerzen’s U.S. website is at
