GIW Industries has won two contracts with Mexican mining company Industrias Peñoles to supply its heavy-duty centrifugal slurry pumps. In Durango, Mexico, GIW will supply 57 slurry pumps to a metals processing plant, while in Sonora, Mexico, the pump maker will supply 30 units to a gold production plant. The contracts represent GIW’s first direct and exclusive sale to a Mexico-based customer.
The Minera El Roble Plant in Durango will get a package of GIW’s LCC-R, LOSA, MDX, LCC-M, and HVF pumps. The plant has a metals processing capacity of 8,000 tons per day. At the 6,500-ton-per-day La Herradura Dynamic Leach Concentrator plant in Sonora, the pump package involves the MDX, LCC-M, LCC-R, HVF, and LSA-HP pumps.
According to GIW, the deal was struck after Peñoles was invited to visit the pump maker’s headquarters in Grovetown, Ga. The mining company toured GIW’s manufacturing facility and slurry lab, as well as visited some of the pump supplier’s U.S. customers. “We invited most of the people who were involved in the [Mexico] projects to visit our factory in Georgia,” says Walter Gonzales, GIW’s business development manager for Latin America.
Peñoles produces gold, zinc, and lead as well as copper, bismuth, and cadmium from active mines across Mexico.
GIW is a subsidiary of German pump and valve maker KSB AG. It also has a pump manufacturing facility in Thomson, Ga.
