The two plants, in Guangdong Province, are said to be more than 50 years old and require updates to raise throughput and yields and energy efficiency. The plants combine to produce 1 million tons/yr of ethylene, a feedstock for the production of polyethylene (PE) resin. In China, according to Honeywell, 70 percent of PE resin is used for packaging.
“We want to establish this project as a benchmark for other similar facilities within the Sinopec Group,” said He Lijian, deputy chief engineer of Sinopec Maoming.
The software that will be installed is Profit Suite R400, which Honeywell says is the most comprehensive version of its Advanced Process Control (APC) and Optimization portfolio. It can integrate with distributed control systems from other brands, as well as with legacy systems.
Honeywell says it has an installed base of more than 30,000 control systems worldwide in refineries, chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, pipelines, power plants, and industrial facilities.
