Industrial Gas Technologies for the Steel Industry on Display at AISTech 2013

Steel industry professionals attending the AISTech 2013 trade show can stop by Air Products’ booth to learn about the company’s range of industrial gases and cost-efficient technologies. AISTech 2013 will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., May 6-8.

From the hot end to the rolling mill, Air Products provides the gases, equipment, technologies, and technical services that can help steel producers reduce fuel consumption, minimize their carbon footprint, increase productivity, optimize gas efficiency, and lower their overall costs.

At booth 434, AISTech attendees can see the rapid heating and uniform heating oxy-fuel burners that will be on display and discuss how the company’s oxy-fuel technologies can help improve the efficiency of their operations. Air Products specialists will be on-hand to speak with steelmakers about their specific process challenges. With decades of experience and know-how serving the steel industry, Air Products can help recommend process improvements and identify solutions to problems.

As part of the conference’s Technical Sessions, Air Products will share results of an oxy-fuel combustion trial that demonstrate the importance of a “furnace control strategy” to realizing benefits when switching from air-fuel to oxy-fuel combustion. In a separate presentation, the company will review the benefits and challenges of oxy-fuel technologies, address myths and misconceptions, and provide examples of where oxy-fuel combustion makes the most sense.  The presentations are scheduled as follows:

  • “Importance of Control Strategy for Oxy-fuel Burners in a Steel Reheat Furnace”
May 6, 3 PM (Rod and Bar Rolling Session)
  • “Oxy-fuel Burner Technologies for Steel Applications”
May 8, 3:30 PM (Energy and Utilities Session)

Air Products will also highlight its full line of gas offerings — including oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen — which the company provides in a variety of delivery options to match each customer’s requirements. For small volume users, the company’s CryoEase microbulk solution offers an alternative to cylinder supply that eliminates the hassle of cylinder handling. Larger volume customers can rely on traditional bulk liquid and gas supply, as well as PRISM and tonnage on-site gas generation systems. The company also offers a fast and flexible option for short-term or emergency gas supply.
