This spring GF AgieCharmilles will be headed south of the border to show off a new 5-axis milling center at a Mexico City industrial convention.
AgieCharmilles will demonstrate its new Mikron HPM 450U, capable of complex-geometry simultaneous machining in a small footprint. The Expo Bancomer Sante Fe will run from March 5-8 in Mexico City, where attendees will be able to see the Mikron HPM 450U’s two compact milling spindles perform high-precision machining at speeds of up to 12,000 rpm or, in an optional upgrade with HSK-A63 taper, up to 20,000 rpm. AgieCharmilles advertises the machine as being capable of unlimited 5-axis simultaneous machining ability.
Despite its small footprint, the machine is capable of milling over a broad work envelope, with an X-axis traverse path of 22.62 in, a Y-axis path of 17.2 in and a Z-axis with 17.72 in of clearance. Each axis is constructed with high-resolution glass scales. The rotary table speed clocks in at 140 rpm.
The Mikron HPM 450U is designed to be compatible with a wide variety of tools as it features a modular tool magazine with an internal tool changer. It allows the operator to load it up internally with 60 tools, with an external magazine capable of holding a total of 220 tools machine-wide.
The Mikron HPM 450U is controlled by the Heidenhain iTNC 530 digital control system, which is marketed as being a fast, operator-friendly design.
