Elmira, N.Y.-based Hardinge Inc. released a new five-axis vertical machining center (VMC) that was designed to have a small factory-floor footprint, American Machinist reports.
The GX-250 5AX, part of the Bridgeport series of VMCs, is capable of operating in an 11.8 x 15.7 x 16.9 inch space, focusing on small workpieces that demand tight tolerances. The compact C-frame design and easy programming make the GX-250 more appealing to smaller shops that don’t have much space to spare or experienced programmers.
The VMC operates on the Fanuc 31i control system, which provides “Manual Guide I, simultaneously controlled 5-axes, Macro Executer, high-speed processing, Look Ahead 1000 Blocks, NANO Smoothing, Tool Center Point Control, Tilted Working Plane Function, Polar Coordinate/Cylindrical/Helical Interpolation” and more.
“The machine is ideally suited for the demanding requirements of the die/mold, aerospace, medical and automotive industries,” Hardinge said in a statement. The company will be displaying the GX-250 5AX at the IMTS show.
