Machine tool manufacturer MAG has released a new twin-spindle machining center in its SPECHT series of tools, designed for hybrid manufacturing applications.

MAG advertises the SPECHT 450 DUO machine as a highly productive, small-footprint system that can operate at high speeds under aggressive fuel efficiency standards. The 450 DUO is intended for the small engine and parts production market. It takes up 11.2 sq m of factory floor space and operates a spindle distance of 540 mm. The work envelope is 510 cu mm on the X, Y, and Z axis, 660 mm in the A axis, and 700 mm in the B axis.

The small machine can perform tool changes in less than one second and the magazine can hold 112 tools in reserve. The magazine is a combination of multiple technologies, comprised of a chain magazine and two disc magazines, and operates on smart tool management software to reduce changes even further.

MAG intended the compact machine to run small, high-precision applications such as 1.4 liter engines. The company noted that demand for fuel efficiency in aerospace has lead to an increase in small engine production, and MAG has introduced the 450 DUO with precision instruments and software to address these requirements.

Further, the company ships the 450 DUO with an optional energy efficiency package that can reduce energy consumption up to 30 percent. Additional modular characteristics for controlled energy consumption are also available.
