Mazak Introduces Improved 3-D Laser Cutting

Mazak’s new automatic 3-D laser cutting machine, the 3D FABRI GEAR Mk 11 (220 model pictured).

Mazak has announced the introduction of a new laser cutting solution for tube, pipe and structural applications.

The 3D FABRI GEAR Mk II is designed for laser cutting a wide variety of material shapes from tube, pipe and structural materials such as round, square, rectangular and triangular. The unit can also cut I and H beams, C-channel and angle iron of mild or stainless steel.

Available in two models, the 3D FABRI GEAR Mk II uses a 6-axis laser to cut large parts quickly. The 220 model is capable of processing round pipe diameters up to 8.6 in and a square piece of material up to 6 in. The 400 model can cut round pipe diameters up to 16 in and square materials up to 11.8 by 11.8 in.

Both units have been designed for faster processing times while using energy more efficiently. Mazak advertises a reduction of gas consumption by 50 percent and electricity consumption by 10 percent. However, the 3D FABRI GEAR Mk II can function 10 percent faster than other laser cutting solutions, the supplier says, because the automated components perform extra functions such as material handling and unloading during and after 3-D laser cutting.
