From Sunday, Feb. 17 to Saturday, Feb. 23, professionals, students, civilians and government organizations will observe National Engineers Week, a celebration of engineers, engineering and the innovative results of their hard work. As we’ve noted, there will be outreach efforts to interest girls and women in engineering, as well as a recognition program for engineers and engineering students and dozens of other engineering programs occurring all week. Additionally, Eweek has gotten quite a boost from an out-of-this-world guest.
The National Society of Professional Engineers, NASA, and The Engineers’ Council teamed up to produce a special video message of support for Eweek starring Kevin Ford, Commander of the International Space Station. Floating in zero gravity accompanied by a spinning toy globe, Commander Ford invites students, educators and professionals to participate in Engineers Week celebrations and education opportunities.
“We appreciate what you do every day to keep us safe up here, to keep our families secure at home, to contribute to the economic vitality of our nation, and to make continued technological progress for the benefit of all,” Ford says. “Have a great weeek on our beautiful planet Earth.”
