Mitsui Seiki USA has released a new horizontal machining center (HMC) for high-rigidity, high-precision machining.

The HU69EX from Mitsui Seiki features a single-casting bed in a machine with a complete footprint of 116 x 127 in. The X, Y, and Z axes are capable of travels at 36, 32, and 32 in, respectively, within positing and repeatability accuracy of +/- 0.0004 in. The 50-taper, 6,000 rpm spindle operates with 18.5/15 kW and 443 lb-ft torque on a two-step gearbox; the company also offers an optional three-step gearbox spindle of 6,000 rpm, 26kW.22kw with 797 ft-lb torque and a 12,000 rpm, 30kW/25kW spindlewith 309 ft-lb torque.

The unit is geared for precision machining. Many of the HU69EX components, such as each axis box way mating surface, the rotary axis mounting, the ball screw mounting points, and spindle attachment surfaces are hand-scraped, which improves accuracy. Each guideway boasts center ball screws for stability.
