Okuma America has released its newest double column machining center (DCMC), designed to reduce set-up time through multiple angle tool approach.
The MCR-A5CII is capable of 5-sided machining, allowing simultaneous machining operations on all five sides of the workpiece. Okuma claims that the MCR-A5CII requires only two to three setups to machine the same workpiece that standard machining centers require five to six setups to complete. Okuma highlights the time reduction as significant and a major benefit to DCMC use.
The unit, which is designed to be rigid, precise, and robust, is capable of machining in a range of 1.6 m to 4.5 m between columns across table lengths of 2 m to 12 m. The standard spindle has a range of 4,000 rpm, though upgrades to 6,000 and 10,000 are available, and they operate on VAC 26/22 (35/30 hp) or VAC 30/22 (40/30 hp) motors. The MCR-A5CII ships with a magazine capacity of 50, although Okuma also offers upgrades to 80, 100, 120, and 180.
