Machine tool manufacturer Precitech has released the Nanoform X Multi-Axis Ultra Precision Machining System to provide simplified, reliable multi-axis machining with a variety of toolings.
The Nanoform X incorporates a number of design changes from earlier Precitech machines that reduce time spent performing “non-value added” tasks, such as tool changes, downtime, and maintenance. For instance, the Nanoform X features a fully-opening upper enclosure to allow expanded access to various internal surfaces, reducing the time needed to dismantle paneling or service hard-to-reach components. The design also features sloping sides to better direct swarf and lubricant into collecting hampers. Additionally, tools in the high-speed HS-150 Work Holding Spindle can be easily changed out in short periods.
Capable of precision diamond turning, milling, and grinding for the optics industry and the production of mold inserts, the Nanoform X is designed to ease programming for 2- to 4-axis machining.
“We listened to our customers and added a number of features that improve productivity and ease of use. The design challenge was to ensure that these new features would not impact the core accuracy of the machine,” Jeff Roblee, vice president of technology for Precitech, explained in a statement. “With the Nanoform X, we were able to improve machine performance, particularly its vibration and temperature sensitivity. We enlisted the assistance of TMC, a world leader in precision vibration control, to help with the design of the vibration isolation system. Both Precitech and TMC are business units of AMETEK Ultra Precision Technologies.”
