RBC Bearings Inc. is initiating several business changes, including altering production of large bearings and switching production facilities.
The Connecticut-based bearing manufacturer for the industrial aerospace and defense markets announced it will be consolidating a Houston operation with other operations around the country, including South Carolina. The Houston plant, which produces large-diameter cylindrical and ball bearings, will divide operations among some of its 23 plants as the company attempts to “bring to critical mass the efficiency of our large bearing manufacturing operations,” American Machinist quotes RBC as announcing.
Further, RBC will acquire aerospace gear and precision parts manufacturer Western Precision Aero LLC (WPA) in Garden Grove, Calif., and move some of its operation to this facility.
“The addition of WPA’s unique and complimentary products and processes to our portfolio of highly engineered products increases the breadth of our current offering to customers,” Dr. Michael J. Hartnett, RBC Bearings chairman and CEO, told American Machinist. “The acquisition is in line with our strategy of product portfolio expansion into the aerospace and industrial markets.”
