Three Sandvik employees were awarded a special prize in recognition of their development of an innovative metal cutting solution.
Silvia Dahlund, Jenni Zackrisson, and Sakari Ruppi of Seco Tools, a Sandvik business division, received the Wilhelm Haglund Medal for the development of a workholding insert with enhanced coating durability. The oxide-coated inserts preserve tool life longer under more extreme speeds and temperatures.
“The work is pioneering within the industry and it is impressive that, 30 years after the first market launch of oxide-coated inserts, it has been possible to make such a vast improvement to these products,” Olle Wijk, Sandvik Group R&D head, said in a statement.
The three recipients received an 18-carat gold medal, a diploma, and a study trip.
