Video: New Software Helps 3-D Designers Print Better Parts

New software Willit 3D Print is a helpful app for designers looking to optimize their 3-D printing experience. As you may have guessed from the name, the web app analyzes 3-D designs and provides designers with technical estimates of how much the part will cost to produce.

As you can see from this screenshot, the tool estimates how long the part will take to build, including prebuild and finishing time, as well as the estimated cost of the materials and the time your printer will be engaged. (via Ponoko)

 

Additionally, Modern Machine Shop highlights new software from researchers at Purdue University and Adobe’s Advanced Technology Labs that helps designers reinforce their designs with extra struts and weight balance to ensure sound structure. Check out the video above.
