As we’ve noted in the past, veterans transitioning to civilian life face many difficulties, chief of which is finding employment. Although many of our soldiers are trained, and trained well, at manufacturing and machining processes in the military, their certifications often don’t transfer to state and federal employment regulations, meaning welders, metal cutters and engineers don’t pursue manufacturing jobs for which they are trained.
I noticed a Tweet from Toyota USA (@Toyota) about their support of a U.S. Chamber of Commerce program, Hiring Our Heroes, an organization devoted to helping veterans find work after their service, and convincing manufacturers and other private employers to hire vets. Toyota shared this touching video about the program, featuring Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, who has dedicated himself to promoting Hiring Our Heroes.
