W.Va. Organization Improves Machining Training Capability

A West Virginia manufacturing and machining organization has improved the machining capability of its technology center with equipment upgrades and new installations.

The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) of Advanced Flexible Manufacturing of West Virginia, a statewide organization dedicated to providing local manufacturers with workforce development advice and equipment use, such as CNC machine tool rentals and access, made the changes to the RCBI Charleston Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center. The RCBI also regularly offers technical and vocational skills courses for those in the manufacturing industry.

To better serve the needs of West Virginia manufacturers, the RCBI has installed an Okuma MU-500-VA-L milling center, which is available for lease use and technical training. The 5-axis machining center features simultaneous, multitask operations and performs high-speed, high-precision cutting. The unit is designed for complex geometries, such as those produced by mold and die shops and aerospace component manufacturers.
