Walter Inserts Improve Cast Iron Turning Performance

A new series of indexable inserts from Walter AG employ a proprietary microstructure design that improves efficiency and performance.

The Tiger-tec Silver series of inserts are designed for hard metals like steel and cast iron, as they have been constructed with durable structures enhanced to resist cutting stresses. The inserts are coated with an aluminum-oxide treatment that improves the micro-structure and then treated by mechanical processes to counteract the types of stresses normally encountered during standard cutting procedures. Walter claims these enhanced microstructures help improve performance by as much as 75 percent.

The inserts, currently available in WKK10S and WKK20S cutting material grades, are suited for turning grey cast iron, ductile cast iron, and vermicular cast iron, and are compatible with MK5 universal geometry. The WKK10S is rated for dry machining, while the WKK20S may be used under both dry and wet machining.

Walter has announced that different grades of inserts for different geometries will be available soon.
