IMT Procurement Journal was live at the ISM-New York centennial celebration on Oct. 3. The event (which was sponsored by ThomasNet.com, parent company of this publication) recognized 100 years of efforts by the organization and its members to elevate the prestige and influence of the purchasing profession amid ever-evolving business and economic conditions.
ISM-New York’s celebration included presentations by ISM-New York President Keith Hines, ISM national CEO Tom Derry, and Thomas Publishing Co. President Tom Knudsen, as well as a video montage of the 100-year history of the New York organization.
The main part of the evening program was a CPO panel discussion on procurement transformation, moderated by Hines. The half-hour-long talk focused on the challenges of executing a broad, transformative initiative that redefines the strategy, structure, and quality of the procurement organization, including resistance to change and getting C-level support.
The panelists were Scott Wharton, managing director and global chief procurement officer at Citi; Mike Hoffman, vice president of global procurement for Pfizer; Bob Schott, managing director of procurement strategy for PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Joe Harney, vice president of procurement services at Columbia University.
