Vaisala has signed a contract with a long standing customer for upper air observation products. The value of the contract is 6.7 million euros. The deliveries start in November 2011 and end in 2013.

May 31, 2011 — New Technology to Improve Early Detection of Explosive Volcanic Ash Cloud Eruptions
Vaisala's Global Lightning Dataset GLD360, now includes new technology that can provide early warnings of explosive ash clouds that cause disruptions to aviation routes and safety. The technology detects lightning produced by volcanic eruptions which is a key indicator of potential ash cloud bursts. During the first 30 hours of the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Grimsvotn, GLD 360 detected over 14,000 lightning events within a 30 kilometer radius surrounding the volcano.

Vaisala introduces a unique innovation for online monitoring of SF6 insulation in high voltage equipment. The Vaisala Multiparameter Transmitter DPT145 combines online dew point monitoring with pressure measurement, creating a superior tool for assessing the condition of SF6 insulation continuously and in real-time.
May 20, 2011 — Vaisala Wins WMO Radiosonde Intercomparison
Vaisala Radiosonde RS92 was proven to be the world's top radiosonde as it was placed number one in the 8th World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Intercomparison of Radiosonde Systems. The WMO published their final report on the measurement results on Friday May 13th, 2011 on their website.
