About Key Technology, Inc. From http://www.key.net
The year 1948 was full of innovation. It saw the introduction of Velcro™, the first transistor and the Polaroid Land camera. It also marked the formation, in a cramped Oregon packing shed, of a brand new company that would supply processing equipment to the Northwest's booming green pea canneries ... and later to the rest of the world.
Founded by brothers Claude and Lloyd Key and eight other investors, the Key Equipment Company set out to eliminate tedious, inefficient manual chores in food processing. That first year, a dozen Froth Flotation Cleaners, Key's first innovation (and one that still is marketed today), were sold to separate foreign material from raw peas. One cannery manager was moved to write: "We have recovered 100% more peas this season than in any other ... our pack is far superior in quality due to these cleaners taking out splits and skins as well as nightshade." And they did it with 18 manual workers instead of 42.
Today, with the added technologies and non-food market positions brought by SRC Vision and Farmco Inc, Key moves into a new century from a position of strength and with a strong sense of history. In fact, armed with more than 50 years of unmatched experience and many of the industry's most talented engineers, researchers and developers, the company will continue to deliver new products and services to its customers in the food, tobacco, plastics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and forest products industry.
