The new high speed, high resolution terrestrial 3D Laser Scanner VZ-6000 offers an extremely long measurement range of more than 6000 m for topographic (static) applications. Being the Laser Class 3B companion to the VZ-4000, it is, due to its laser wavelength, exceptionally well suited for measuring snowy and icy terrain in glacier mapping and monitoring applications in mountainous regions.

Scanning a railway stretch in Frankfurt/Germany with a RIEGL VMX-250 Mobile Laser Scanning System being installed on a standard maintenance railway vehicle. Data acquisition and data processing to the georeferenced point cloud have been accomplished on site with RIEGL's software packages RiACQUIRE and RiPROCESS, respectively. Adding-on, automated extraction of rail heads, in the further the rail axis and velocity-dependent clearance measurements are shown with technet-rail's software products.
