Overview: The global economy provides new opportunities to develop markets and sources for goods, but it presents challenges in terms of managing, shipping and tracking products or components. The global logistics issues faced by the die casting industry as the production has moved offshore to China, are addressed in this paper by listing out the various factors that can interrupt the supply chain. The costs of offshore sourcing regarding the shipping costs and transportation rates are explained with the help of illustrated graphs. Role of third-party logistics providers in providing logistics solutions for the die casters conducting business in offshore locations is brought to focus, stating the advantages in terms of cost savings and production efficiency.
