Overview: Various properties of the low VOC and corrosion resistant exterior polyurethane coating system used on the exterior metal surface of Bayer Corporation Headquarters' new building in Pittsburg are presented in this paper as a case study. Advantages of the polyurethane exterior coatings in terms of aesthetic value and environmental protection are stated, detailing the process undertaken in applying the exterior coating. The post fabrication finishing process of the insulated metal panels is described, and the components of the 3 coat system used on the exterior metal panels are detailed. This paper also provides a table of guidelines for high-performance polyurethane exterior coatings, including the required physical properties and methods of evaluating various properties.
