High-Performance Polyurethane Coatings Used in Construction of the Seattle Mariners' Safeco Field

Overview:
Guidelines for the high-performance moisture-cured polyurethane paint system used to coat the structural steel of the Safeco Field's retractable roof and miscellaneous metals, are presented in this paper. Performance properties of the zinc-rich urethane primer and the low sheen urethane finish coat are listed, along with the surface preparation methods, and the environmental conditions to be considered while undertaking shop painting are suggested. Guidelines for field application of coatings and field repairs of damaged coatings are provided, listing the steel shop paint systems and the procedure to be followed during in-shop painting and field application of coatings.
