Overview: Cost savings by recycling plastic coated with aluminum functional thin film using vacuum deposition method are focussed in this paper, highlighting the benefits of the Deep-Coat vacuum deposition process, which does not require a base coat, enabling the recycling of the plastic. Procedures for the removal of aluminum from the plastic before recycling are detailed, highlighting the compatibility of vacuum deposition technology with the stricter environmental requirements of the European and Pacific Rim markets. Deep-Coat's pioneering efforts in developing a process that helps achieve adhesion of metal to substrate without the necessity for an intermediate base coat is also featured.
