Overview:
An overview of the present and future applications of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) in medicine, as well as a brief history of the advances and breakthroughs in modern medical technology, and the adoption of MEMS by the biomedical field is presented in this paper. Definition of MEMS and BioMEMS is explained along with their functions, and types of BioMEMS devices are listed, illustrating their medical applications with the help of figures. Ongoing research on BioMEMS is detailed, exploring the future possibilities in medical devices using BioMEMS, and a futuristic view of preventive medicine, and medical diagnostics utilizing BIOMEMS for reducing device size and cost while increasing capabilities is also presented.
