Overview: New possibilities in the arena of technology convergence are explored in this paper, detailing the advances in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), nanotechnology, and biotechnology. Highlighting the significance of ongoing research in these feilds, it predicts the merging of Bio, Nano, and MEMS as a magic mix of science and technology that can generate synergy to yield unusual results and valuable new devices. A new nano-manipulation technology developed by Toshiba is explained along with the medical applications of Bio-Nano-MEMS in the future. In view of the possibilities offered by microinjection molding, this paper details the challenges regarding the packaging of sophisticated electromechanical chips as well as the emerging trends in photonics.
