Overview: This case study reviews Photo-Chemical Machining (PCM) or etching provided by ChemArt for a leading golf club manufacturer to test out prototypes for new club head groove designs. The process of PCM which is also known as Rapid Controlled Subtractive process is described in detail, and an explanation about how images or designs are transferred to the metal surface using a photo-tool, and how the various stages of the controlled etching process is included. An analysis of ChemArt's chemical etching process in saving cost by avoiding a full production run by replicating the concepts onto the existing club faces is also featured. The case study highlights ChemArt's ability to think outside the box and identify unique processes to meet the requirements of the customer.
