Overview:
Various thermal management systems generally available for cooling NEMA electronic enclosures commonly used to house sensitive electronics for automation, process controls, drives, and PLCs, are reviewed in this paper. Cost considerations of purchasing a larger cabinet for taking advantage of the natural convection to remove excess heat from cabinet are examined, detailing the advantages and disadvantages of using fans and filters, thermoelectric devices, air compressor coolers, and panel air conditioners for cabinet thermal management. The paper also describes the energy savings offered by the low-maintenance heat exchangers, which are designed to be sealed from dust in the air and can protect against moisture and corrosion.
