Overview: The many advantages of using plastic components as replacement for traditional metal products in innovative applications are presented in this paper, which includes several examples of effective design and integration of plastic into various parts in transportation/trucking industry. It highlights the corrosion resistance, weight reduction, design flexibility, appearance benefits, and impact resistance offered by plastic automotive components, describing how effective parts reduction can be achieved by integrated parts design using plastics. The various possibilities offered by plastics for overcoming the economic and design limitations of metal are detailed. The paper includes a table listing the physical properties of Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO), providing an example detailing how those properties make TPO ideal for many automotive and truck applications.
