Scissor-Jack-Damper Energy Dissipation System

Publisher: Taylor Devices, Inc.
Overview:
This paper explains about the scissor-jack-damper system with the added advantage of compactness, presents the concept underlying the scissor-jack-damper configuration, and verifies the theory via experimental results. It represents the first detailed treatment of the scissor-jack-damper system and the related experimental results, which represent part of the doctoral dissertation of the first author. A clear description of magnification factor and forces in scissor-jack system, damping ratio and period of structure with damping system, experimental program, and identification of dynamic characteristics is provided. Figures illustrating possible installation configurations of a scissor-jack-damping system and tested scissor-jack-damper configuration, and tables explaining peak response of model in earthquake simulator testing are also included.
