The Effect of Biodiesel Feedstocks on Infrared Blend Measurement

Publisher: Wilks Enterprise, Inc.
Overview:
Highlighting the measurement of biodiesel percent in diesel, this paper discusses about the effect of biodiesel feedstocks on the infrared blend and states that the molecular weight of the feedstocks will also affect the infrared measurements. It details how the biodiesel content can be measured with the infrared instrument by differentiating intensity of absorbance to wavelength, along with a graphical illustration. Table showing the results from a B20 blend with five different feedstocks measured with a Wilks InfraCal Biodiesel Blend Analyzer is also included. The paper concludes infrared analysis can be made simple and reliable, buy using instruments like Infracal biodiesel blend analyzer and infraspec VFA-IR spectrometer which measures little effect from a majority of biodiesel feedstock.
