Unfilled Liquid Crystal Polymers

Highlighting that unfilled liquid crystal polymers (LCP) have excellent thermal and dimensional stability, and high strength, this paper presents the end-use and processing advantages of LCPs along with the help of a table. It briefly explains how blends and processing aids improve LCPs stiffness, impact resistance, and impermeability, and how LCP fibers are manufactured by conventional polyester extrusion method. Listing fibers' benefits such as excellent cut resistance, creep, and low moisture pick up, the paper details the applications of LCP fibers such as in trawl ropes, pressure vessels, safety garments, and bow strings. Figures illustrating liquid crystal films have potential applications as fuel cell, and permeability of polymer films are also included.
