How to Choose Fasteners That Maximize Assembly Life

Stating that selecting a method that provides the highest quality joint with integrity over time at low cost would be a challenge for the design engineers, this paper explains how to choose a fastener that maximizes the assembly life. It briefly details about the constructional features of solid pins, slotted pins, and coiled spring pins along with their advantages and disadvantages, and points that after insertion coiled pin would be the most capable of absorbing shock and vibration by increasing useful life of the assembly. Figures illustrating elongation of hole due to solid pin's rigidity, and light, standard and heavy duty coiled pins are also added. The paper concludes that the integrity of the application can be preserved throughout the life of a product by partnering with fastening and assembly experts who could recommend the most cost effective solution, and suggests SPIROL's team could help out with the best one.
