Grinding & Honing to Achieve Required Micro Finish.

Publisher: Grindal Company
Overview:
Highlighting that engineers strive for designing the better components in order to fit into assemblies, this paper throws light on the subject of micro finish and different ways of measuring surface roughness in various procedures required in metal forming application. The paper points that as the compressed product lifecycle demands higher efficiency from product development and production, micro finish could be a critical item which should not be over looked while designing. It lists some roughness parameters that are measured at Grindal company like Ra, Rz, Rmax as per DIN EN ISO 4287, Rk, RVK, Mr1 as per DIN EN ISO 12085, and AR, CR, CF as per JIS-B 0601. Facts about grinding, flat lapping and honing which could produce the best micro finish are discussed in this paper, along with hydrodynamic lubrication which helps in preventing wear in the moving parts.
